INDUSTRY 08 - SURFACE & UNDERGROUND SITES

MINING SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Mining sites run heavy vehicle traffic, temporary power and long cable runs across haul roads and work areas that shift as the operation moves. CableSafe protects those cable runs from truck and machinery traffic, and keeps crews clear of dropped-object and confined space hazards on-site.

THE SITUATION ON SITE

Mining sites – surface pits and underground alike – move heavy equipment across haul roads and work areas on a scale most other industries don’t. Temporary power cable, communications lines and hose runs frequently have to cross haul roads and access routes used by dump trucks, loaders and other heavy machinery, and a cable crushed by a haul truck isn’t just a safety event – it’s downtime.

Because mining infrastructure is often temporary or relocated as the operation moves, cable protection needs to be tough enough for repeated heavy-vehicle crossings and quick enough to relocate without a large crew. Dropped objects from elevated equipment and conveyor structures, and unsecured entries into shafts, hoppers and processing equipment, round out the main hazard profile on most sites.

CableSafe supplies mine site HSE teams with a standard kit built for this scale: heavy-duty cable protection rated for truck and machinery crossings, drop-prevention nets and tool tethers for elevated work, and confined space barriers for hoppers, shafts and processing equipment entries.

COMMON HAZARDS

Cable runs crossing haul roads

Temporary power and communications cable crossing haul roads and access routes are exposed to repeated crushing loads from dump trucks, loaders and other heavy machinery.

Dropped objects from elevated equipment

Conveyor structures, crushers and elevated maintenance platforms put tools and hardware above occupied work areas and equipment below.

Unsecured shaft, hopper and equipment entries

Shafts, hoppers and processing equipment need controlled, barriered access; an unmarked opening on an active mine site is a serious fall and entrapment hazard.

CABLESAFE SOLUTIONS

Cable Safety

Protect cable crossing haul roads and access routes with 5-channel cable guards for bundled runs and 3-channel cable guards for lighter runs, and lift crossings clear of truck traffic with a heavy-duty cable stand.

Dropped Objects Prevention

Secure tools and hardware worked at height on conveyors and platforms with a steel securing lanyard, catch what still gets dropped with a fall protection safety net, and close off gaps with a combi net around temporary structures.

Confined Space Safety

Mark and barrier every open entry with a manhole quick barrier, control shaft and hopper access with a manhole entry barrier, and cover open pits and trenches with a cover net until work is complete.

BUILT FOR HEAVY VEHICLE TRAFFIC AND A MOVING SITE

Cable protection on a mine site has to survive repeated crossings from dump trucks, loaders and other heavy machinery without cracking or shifting – a load class far beyond typical construction-site traffic. CableSafe’s heavy-duty cable guards are rated for exactly that kind of use.

Because mining operations relocate as the pit or face moves, everything in the range is designed to be picked up, moved and redeployed quickly with a small crew, rather than built for a single fixed installation.

WHY MINE SITE HSE TEAMS SPECIFY CABLESAFE

Westmark B.V., the company behind CableSafe, has been supplying safety hardware to industrial and mining sites since 1991 – long enough to know that a mine site’s cable protection has to survive loads most products are never tested against.

Our cable guard and barrier ranges are built to the standards your safety officer already checks against: EN 1263-1 for netting systems, and the general secondary-retention and dropped-objects principles behind DROPS guidance for tools and equipment used at height.

Every product ships with the documentation your HSE file needs, and our team can spec a full kit list against your site layout so nothing gets improvised on the day.
