Dropped Objects Prevention

Safety Net Fit-to-size

Secondary retention nets preventing dropped object accidents

Anti-Drop Safety Netting. Dropped objects are a major source of incidents in heavy industries. In the drilling industry offshore dropped objects are listed in the top ten of most frequent incidents. By securing overhead fixtures items at height (e.g. speakers, cctv camera, navigation lights, flood lights or strip / TL lights, etc.) using secondary locking devices and additional securing techniques incidents are prevented and risk for dropping or falling objects is reduced significantly for people working below these items.

All our CableSafe Safety Netting have a 3-year warranty if installed correctly.

What is a Safety Net Fit-to-size?

A Safety Net Fit-to-size is a stainless-steel (AISI 316) net that wraps around equipment installed at height — floodlights, speakers, CCTV cameras, junction boxes, strip lights, detectors — and tethers it with a lanyard, so that if the primary fixing fails the object is caught instead of dropped. Standard net sizes match common equipment without measuring or custom design, the crimpings are load-tested under DNV GL and ABS witness, and the nets carry a 3-year warranty when installed correctly.

The Safety Nets Fit-to-size serve as a reliable securing method for equipment at height, to prevent a high risk of becoming a dropped object. The safety nets are made out of stainless steel SUS/ AISI316: which is the industry preferred high quality steel for use and operation in maritime, offshore or other harsh environments due to its good resistance against pitting corrosion.

To prevent objects from falling from height the safety nets are wrapped around the objects. The size of the object determines the size of the safety net required, standard safety net sizes make an easy match to any equipment (such as: junction boxes, lights for navigation, TL-lights or strip lights, speakers, sound boxes, cctv cameras, monitors and detector equipment).

The stainless steel high quality safety net will catch the object when it accidently drops to the workfloor or platform. These safety nets can be used for temporary installation works, but are most suitable for permanend installed objects at height that introduce dropped object risks.

A strong lanyard is supplied to weave through the netting and wrap and lock the ends of the safety net to the solid structure. This secondary retention method is commonly applied to protect the lives of the workers and pedestrians.

How the models differ

Specifications

The specification sheet for this article is being finalised. Ask us for the datasheet and we send it the same day.

Which size do I need?

Pick the hook by the heaviest single load it will carry, not by hose diameter alone. The static load in the table is the figure to work with; when the load is dynamic or shock-loaded, ask us to check the application first.

Frequently asked

What is secondary retention?

Secondary retention secures, encloses and tethers an overhead fixture so it cannot drop to the work floor when its primary attachment or bracket fails. The Fit-to-size net is that secondary system for lights, speakers, cameras and similar equipment.

How do I pick the right net size?

Measure the object — standard net sizes match common fixtures such as floodlights, TL and strip lights, speakers, horns and CCTV cameras. No custom design or upfront survey is needed; the datasheet lists the size range per net.

What is the safe working load?

Tested and verified SWL of the net is 54.6 kg (actual break load 273 kg) and of the AISI 316 lanyard 1,077 kg. Load tests were witnessed by DNV GL and ABS; certificates are available.

Net roll or fit-to-size?

The Safety Net Roll is cut and shaped on site for unusual objects. Fit-to-size nets install faster because they are already made for the object and need no modification.

Why stainless steel?

AISI 316 is the industry-preferred grade for maritime, offshore and other harsh environments because of its resistance to pitting corrosion, vibration wear and fatigue.
