INDUSTRY 05 - PLANTS & GENERATING STATIONS

POWER GENERATION SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Power plants run dense electrical and mechanical infrastructure around the clock, and every outage or maintenance window adds temporary cabling and lifting gear on top of it. CableSafe keeps that gear off the walkway and away from live equipment, in non-conductive hardware built for the plant floor.

THE SITUATION ON SITE

Generating stations – whether gas, coal, nuclear or renewable – pack turbines, switchgear, boilers and control systems into a tight footprint, and a scheduled outage brings in a wave of contractors and temporary equipment all at once. Welding leads, instrumentation cable and portable lighting cross the same walkways operators use every day, and during a major outage that traffic multiplies fast.

Much of a plant’s critical equipment sits near or above walkway level – turbine decks, switchgear rooms, boiler platforms – so a dropped tool or piece of hardware can strike both people and sensitive equipment below. Because so much of the plant runs on live high-voltage systems, any cable protection or barrier used near it also has to be non-conductive by design, not just by coincidence.

CableSafe gives plant HSE and outage planning teams a standard kit they can specify once and use across every outage: non-conductive, corrosion-resistant cable protection that keeps leads off the floor, drop-prevention nets and tool tethers for elevated platform work, and confined space barriers for the pits, tanks and vessels found throughout a generating station.

COMMON HAZARDS

Outage-driven cable congestion

Scheduled outages bring a wave of contractors and temporary leads across the same walkways plant operators use daily, sharply raising slip and trip exposure during the busiest weeks of the year.

Dropped objects near switchgear and turbines

Work at height on turbine decks, boiler platforms and switchgear rooms puts tools and hardware directly over sensitive, high-value equipment and the people working below it.

Unsecured pits, tanks and vessel entries

Cooling water pits, fuel tanks and process vessels throughout a plant require controlled, barriered access; an unmarked opening is a compliance and safety gap that’s easy to overlook amid outage schedules.

CABLESAFE SOLUTIONS

Segurança dos cabos

Route temporary leads off plant walkways with 3-channel cable guards for light runs and 5-channel cable guards for bundled leads, and lift crossings clear of cart and vehicle traffic with a heavy-duty cable stand.

Prevenção de queda de objectos

Secure tools and hardware worked at height on turbine decks and platforms with a steel securing lanyard, catch what still gets dropped with a rede de segurança contra quedas, and close off gaps with a rede combinada around scaffolding and temporary structures.

Segurança em espaços confinados

Mark and barrier every open entry with a barreira rápida para poços de inspeção, control tank and pit access with a barreira de acesso à câmara de inspeção, and cover open pits and trenches with a rede de cobertura until permitted work is complete.

BUILT FOR THE OUTAGE SCHEDULE, NOT JUST THE CHECKLIST

Power plant equipment has to be non-conductive as standard, since so much of a generating station’s floor is within reach of live high-voltage systems. CableSafe’s cable guards and barriers are built from corrosion-resistant, non-conductive materials so they’re safe to deploy anywhere on the plant floor without a special case.

Outage schedules are tight and unforgiving, so every product in the range is designed to deploy and strike down fast with a small crew, and to be redeployed outage after outage rather than written off after one campaign.

WHY POWER PLANT HSE TEAMS SPECIFY CABLESAFE

Westmark B.V., the company behind CableSafe, has been supplying safety hardware to industrial sites since 1991 – long enough to know that plant outages leave no room for equipment that doesn’t perform on day one.

Our cable guard and barrier ranges are built to the standards your safety officer already checks against: EN 1263-1 for netting systems, and the general secondary-retention and dropped-objects principles behind DROPS guidance for tools and equipment used at height.

Every product ships with the documentation your HSE file needs, and our team can spec a full kit list against your outage or maintenance scope so nothing gets improvised on the day.
