A scissor-type aluminium barrier, 990 mm in diameter and 4 mm thick, that closes a manhole opening in seconds. Nuts and bolts adjust the scissor to the opening and 95 N magnets hold it to steel manways; an optional Lockout-Tagout kit secures it with a 3.6 m steel wire and a solid lock so nobody can enter while the manhole is open. It weighs about 1.5 kg, warns personnel and prevents unauthorised or accidental entry during maintenance and installation.

The LOTO system runs through the arms of the barrier and secures it to the manhole opening with a 3.6 m steel wire. The standard colour is silver; the barrier is also available in other colours, for example safety red.

A 3.6 m steel wire runs through the arms and locks the barrier to the manhole opening, so it cannot be removed or tampered with. The open manhole is visibly and physically secured until the permit holder unlocks it.
This barrier is for round manways. For irregular openings use the Manhole Skirt Barrier; for a wide range of round and square sizes the adjustable Manhole Entry Barrier.
