INDUSTRY 03 - PROCESS & REFINING
PETROCHEMICAL & REFINERY SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Refineries and petrochemical plants run dense networks of pipe racks, elevated platforms and process units, and every shutdown adds temporary cabling, hoses and lifting gear on top. CableSafe keeps that gear off the walkway and off the pipe rack, in non-conductive hardware built for a process environment.
THE SITUATION ON SITE
A process unit is built around fixed pipe racks and elevated platforms, which leaves very little spare floor space for the temporary work that a turnaround or a routine maintenance package brings with it: welding leads, air hoses, instrumentation cable, portable lighting. Every run has to cross a walkway, a stair tower or a pipe rack access point, and on a live unit that crossing has to be managed, not improvised.
Because so much of a refinery’s infrastructure sits at height – pipe bridges, platforms, distillation towers, flare structures – dropped objects are a constant risk alongside the trip hazard on the ground. A dropped tool from a platform above a process line can strike an operator or, worse, impact equipment carrying hydrocarbons, which is why most refiners now mandate secondary retention on tools used at height as a condition of the work permit.
CableSafe supplies HSE and turnaround planning teams with a standard, specifiable kit for exactly this environment: non-conductive, corrosion-resistant cable protection that keeps leads off walkways and pipe racks, drop-prevention nets and tool tethers for elevated work, and confined space barriers for the tanks, sumps and vessels that every process area has to manage.
COMMON HAZARDS
Congested pipe racks and walkways
Turnaround and maintenance work adds temporary leads across the same pipe racks, platforms and stair towers used for daily process access, multiplying slip, trip and access-restriction risk during the busiest periods on site.
Dropped objects near live process lines
Tools and hardware worked at height above pipe bridges, towers and platforms put both people and live process equipment below at risk from a single dropped item.
Unbarriered tank, sump and vessel entries
Confined spaces are everywhere on a process unit; an unmarked or unbarriered opening during a turnaround is a fall and atmospheric hazard that permit-to-work systems are specifically designed to prevent.
CABLESAFE SOLUTIONS
Seguridad de los cables
Route temporary leads off pipe racks and walkways with 3-channel cable guards for light runs and 5-channel cable guards for bundled leads, and lift crossings clear of forklift and vehicle traffic with a heavy-duty cable stand.
Prevención de objetos caídos
Secure tools and hardware worked at height with a steel securing lanyard, catch what still gets dropped with a red de seguridad contra caídas under pipe bridges and platforms, and close scaffolding gaps with a red combinada.
Seguridad en espacios confinados
Mark and barrier every open entry with a barrera rápida para bocas de alcantarillado, control tank and vessel access with a barrera de acceso a la boca de inspección, and cover sumps and open trenches with a red de cobertura until the permit closes.
BUILT FOR A LIVE PROCESS ENVIRONMENT
Process areas mix live hydrocarbons, high-voltage equipment and corrosive atmospheres, so hardware that goes into a refinery has to be non-conductive and able to shrug off chemical exposure and UV without degrading. CableSafe’s cable guards and barriers are built with that environment in mind, not adapted from a generic construction-site product.
Turnaround schedules are unforgiving, so every product in the range is designed to deploy and strike down fast with a small crew, and to survive being redeployed campaign after campaign rather than being written off after one shutdown.
WHY REFINERY AND PETROCHEMICAL HSE TEAMS SPECIFY CABLESAFE
Westmark B.V., the company behind CableSafe, has been supplying safety hardware to industrial and process sites since 1991 – long enough to know that a solution has to survive a real turnaround, not just a product photo.
Our cable guard and barrier ranges are built to the standards your safety officer already checks against: EN 1263-1 for netting systems, and the general secondary-retention and dropped-objects principles behind DROPS guidance for tools and equipment used at height.
Every product ships with the documentation your HSE file needs, and our team can spec a full kit list against your turnaround or shutdown scope so nothing gets improvised on the day.
