HAZARD ZONE - PERMIT-ONLY CONFINED SPACES
PERMIT-ONLY CONFINED SPACE SAFETY
Tanks, vessels, pits and enclosed process equipment are among the most dangerous spaces on any site. Unauthorized or poorly controlled entries into permit-required confined spaces are consistently among the most fatal incidents in industry – CableSafe helps enforce the barrier between the permit system and the space itself.
THE SITUATION ON SITE
A permit-required confined space entry is one of the few work activities where a single procedural gap can be fatal within minutes. Oxygen-deficient or toxic atmospheres, engulfment hazards, and mechanical hazards inside tanks, vessels, pits, sewers and process equipment mean entry has to be controlled every time, without exception.
The barrier at the point of entry is the last physical line of defense before the permit system: a manhole cover left open, an unmarked hatch, or an access point without a physical barrier invites an unauthorized entry, a dropped tool into the space below, or a fall into an opening that should have been secured.
CableSafe supplies the physical barriers, netting and signage that keep confined space entry points controlled, visible and closed to anyone who is not the authorized entrant, attendant or supervisor for that permit.
COMMON HAZARDS
Unauthorized entry
A manhole, hatch or access point left uncovered or unmarked invites entry by someone who is not part of the permit – a contractor, visitor or even a curious employee.
Falls and drops into the space
An open confined space entry point at floor level is a fall hazard for anyone walking nearby, and a path for tools or debris to drop into the space below, onto workers inside.
Loss of positive access control
Without a visible, physical barrier at the entry point, the attendant has no reliable way to confirm the space stays closed to unauthorized personnel between authorized entries.
CABLESAFE SOLUTIONS
سلامة الأماكن المحصورة
Barrier nets, manhole covers and quick-deploy barriers that physically close off a confined space entry point between authorized entries, with clear signage marking the hazard.
منع الأجسام الساقطة
Tool tethers and catch nets around the entry point reduce the risk of tools or debris falling into the confined space onto workers below.
CONTROLLED BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER ENTRY
A confined space barrier does its job three times over: before entry, marking and physically blocking the space to unauthorized personnel; during entry, keeping the surrounding area clear so the attendant can focus on the entrant rather than passersby; and after entry, going straight back over the opening the moment work is paused or finished.
CableSafe barriers are designed to be deployed and removed quickly by the permit holder or attendant without special tools, so the barrier is actually used for every entry, every time, rather than skipped when the crew is in a hurry.
WHY PERMIT HOLDERS SPECIFY CABLESAFE
Westmark B.V., trading as CableSafe, has supplied industrial safety hardware since 1991. Our confined space barriers are built for the pace of a real permit system – fast to deploy, fast to remove, and durable through repeated daily use.
Our netting and barrier products are manufactured to relevant EN 1263-1 standards for netting strength and durability, giving HSE teams a specified, documented product rather than an improvised barricade.
CableSafe products are referenced in site confined space procedures across construction, oil and gas, petrochemical and manufacturing sites in Europe and the US, wherever a permit-only space needs a physical, not just procedural, barrier.
