HAZARD ZONE - VESSELS & BARGES
VESSEL AND BARGE SAFETY
Vessels and barges combine a moving deck, confined machinery spaces and cable and hose runs for power, communication and tooling. A loose cable or an unsecured tool is a more serious hazard when the surface underfoot is moving. CableSafe’s marine-rated cable, dropped-objects and confined-space equipment is built for that environment.
THE SITUATION ON SITE
A vessel or barge is a working environment that moves underfoot in a way a land site never does, which changes how every hazard behaves. Cable and hose runs for power, communication and tooling still have to cross deck walkways just as they would on land, but a stumble over one is far more likely to end in a fall over the side or into open machinery on a moving deck.
Below deck, machinery spaces and holds bring their own confined space hazards – limited entry and exit, the possibility of a hazardous atmosphere, and equipment that’s harder to isolate than it would be in a fixed industrial building. Dropped objects between deck levels add a third hazard on top of the deck-level trip risk and the below-deck confined space risk.
CableSafe supplies marine operators with equipment for all three: corrosion-resistant, non-conductive cable protection for deck-level runs, dropped-objects nets and barriers for work between deck levels, and confined space equipment for holds and machinery space entries.
COMMON HAZARDS
Cable and hose management on a moving deck
A cable or hose that would simply be a trip hazard on land becomes a fall-overboard risk on a deck that’s rarely still.
Dropped objects between deck levels
Tools and hardware worked at height on masts, cranes and upper decks put crew on lower levels at direct risk from a single dropped item.
Confined space entry into holds and machinery spaces
Limited entry and exit points, plus the possibility of a hazardous atmosphere, make holds and machinery spaces a serious confined space risk that’s easy to underestimate.
CABLESAFE SOLUTIONS
Segurança dos cabos
Route deck-level power and hose runs off the walkway with 3-channel cable guards for light leads and 5-channel cable guards for bundled runs, both corrosion-resistant and non-conductive.
Prevenção de queda de objectos
Catch or deflect items falling between deck levels with a rede de segurança contra quedas or rede combinada, and secure tools at height with a steel securing lanyard.
Segurança em espaços confinados
Control access into holds and machinery spaces with a barreira de acesso à câmara de inspeção or self-closing safety gate, and cover open deck penetrations with a rede de cobertura.
BUILT FOR A MOVING, SALT-EXPOSED ENVIRONMENT
Equipment used on vessels and barges has to survive salt spray, UV, humidity and constant vibration without corroding or losing grip. CableSafe’s marine-duty cable guards and barriers use corrosion-resistant, non-conductive materials chosen for exactly that exposure.
Because vessel schedules and cargo cycles leave little room for slow setup, everything in the range is designed to deploy and strike down quickly with a small crew, and to be reused voyage after voyage.
WHY MARINE OPERATORS SPECIFY CABLESAFE
Westmark B.V., the company behind CableSafe, has been supplying safety hardware to industrial and marine sites since 1991 – long enough to know that gear used at sea has to survive conditions a catalogue photo never shows.
Our cable, dropped-objects and confined-space ranges are built to the standards your safety officer already checks against: EN 1263-1 for netting systems, and the general secondary-retention and dropped-objects principles behind DROPS guidance for tools and equipment used at height.
Every product ships with the documentation your HSE file needs, and our team can spec a full kit list against your vessel or barge layout so nothing gets improvised on the day.
