INDUSTRY 06 - CHEMICAL PLANTS

CHEMICAL PROCESSING SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Chemical plants combine corrosive atmospheres, live process piping and frequent maintenance work in a footprint with little spare space. CableSafe keeps temporary cabling and lifting gear off the walkway and out of the way of flange work, in hardware built to handle a corrosive environment.

THE SITUATION ON SITE

Chemical plants run continuous processes through a dense network of piping, reactors and storage tanks, which leaves little floor space to spare when maintenance work brings in extra cabling, hoses and portable equipment. Flange work, valve maintenance and instrumentation checks all add temporary leads across walkways that operators are using at the same time.

Because chemical exposure and vapour zones are part of daily operation, any hardware brought onto the plant floor has to be chemically resistant and, in many areas, non-conductive – a generic cable guard or barrier bought for a construction site simply won’t hold up or won’t be safe to use near process equipment.

CableSafe supplies chemical plant HSE teams with a standard kit that’s built for this environment: corrosion and chemical-resistant, non-conductive cable protection that keeps leads off the floor, drop-prevention nets and tool tethers for work at height around reactors and structures, and confined space barriers for the tanks and vessels that are part of daily process work.

COMMON HAZARDS

Cable congestion during flange and valve work

Maintenance packages route temporary leads across the same walkways used for daily plant access, and chemical exposure means standard hardware often isn’t suitable for the environment.

Dropped objects around reactors and structures

Work at height around reactors, columns and process structures puts tools and hardware directly over occupied areas and sensitive process equipment below.

Unsecured tank and vessel entries

Storage tanks, reactors and process vessels require controlled, barriered access; an unmarked opening near a chemical process is both a fall hazard and an exposure risk.

CABLESAFE SOLUTIONS

Kabelveiligheid

Route temporary leads off the plant floor with 3-channel cable guards for light runs and 5-channel cable guards for bundled leads, and lift crossings clear of forklift traffic with a heavy-duty cable stand.

Preventie van laten vallen voorwerpen

Secure tools and hardware worked at height with a steel securing lanyard, catch what still gets dropped with a veiligheidsnet ter bescherming tegen vallen around reactors and structures, and close off gaps with a combi-net.

Veiligheid in besloten ruimtes

Mark and barrier every open entry with a snelle afzetting voor mangaten, control tank and vessel access with a toegangsbeveiliging voor mangaten, and cover pits and open trenches with a afdeknet until permitted work is complete.

BUILT FOR A CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENT

Hardware used in a chemical plant has to hold up against acids, solvents and corrosive vapours without breaking down – a risk generic construction-site equipment isn’t built for. CableSafe’s cable guards and barriers use corrosion and chemical-resistant, non-conductive materials chosen specifically for process environments.

Because maintenance windows on a chemical plant are often short and tightly scheduled, everything in the range is designed to deploy and strike down fast with a small crew, and to be reused across every maintenance cycle rather than written off after one use.

WHY CHEMICAL PLANT HSE TEAMS SPECIFY CABLESAFE

Westmark B.V., the company behind CableSafe, has been supplying safety hardware to industrial and chemical sites since 1991 – long enough to know that a corrosive environment finds every weak point in a product fast.

Our cable guard and barrier ranges are built to the standards your safety officer already checks against: EN 1263-1 for netting systems, and the general secondary-retention and dropped-objects principles behind DROPS guidance for tools and equipment used at height.

Every product ships with the documentation your HSE file needs, and our team can spec a full kit list against your maintenance or turnaround scope so nothing gets improvised on the day.
