A safety hook is a non-conductive plastic hook that suspends cables, hoses and work gear off the work floor, so a temporary cable run does not become a slip, trip and fall hazard. The CableSafe Safety Hook Extreme is the heavy-duty version: glass-reinforced PBT, UV stabilised, flame retardant and cold weather rated, in seven sizes from 40 kg to 275 kg static load. It hooks over scaffold tube, handrail, beam or fence without tools and comes off just as fast when the job is done.
During maintenance, a turnaround, an outage or a construction job, temporary cables and hoses end up wherever there is floor. That is where people walk. The CableSafe Safety Hook Extreme takes those lines off the floor and hangs them at height, over scaffold tube, handrail, beam, fence, truss or catwalk — no tools, no fixings, and off again in seconds when the job is finished.
Because the hook is glass-reinforced PBT and not metal, it conducts neither electricity nor heat. That is what makes it usable around live work and in electrical, nuclear and offshore installations where a steel hook would be refused.
Pick the hook by the heaviest single load it will carry, not by the diameter of the hose. Water-filled 2-inch hose weighs roughly six kilos per metre; with hooks every two metres, the 12 in hook (190 kg) is the usual choice. The 15 in sizes take welding leads and bundled cables; the 6 in handles light cables and air lines.
The double hooks add a second, lower opening so power, data and air stay separated within one fixing. That limits heat build-up between conductors, reduces electromagnetic interference between power and signal lines, prevents abrasion where cables rub, and lets a crew pull one line for servicing without disturbing the rest.
Oil and gas, refineries and chemical plants, shipyards and drydock, offshore and maritime, power generation and nuclear installations, electrical contracting, warehousing and logistics. In entertainment the hooks carry feeder cable, automation bundles and multi-cable on battens, truss and catwalks, at stage crossovers and mid-stage drop locations — in black where the rig has to disappear, in glow in the dark where an evacuation route has to stay traceable.
Suspending temporary cabling is not just housekeeping. OSHA 1926.150 Subpart F covers fire prevention and clear passage on industrial sites. BS 7671:2018, chapter 52, section 521.200, requires that wiring systems in escape routes are supported so they cannot fall and obstruct people leaving a building during a fire — a metal-free, flame-retardant support is the practical answer. CPR / NEN 8012:2015 classifies cables by their reaction to fire; the hook material is rated UL 94 V-0.
CableSafe is the industrial safety brand of Westmark BV in Leusden. The hooks are produced in the EU under a monitored process with 100% recycling of production waste, free-cooling water recovery and LED-lit production halls; a bio-based material variant is available on request. In normal use a hook lasts well over fifteen years, and it carries a three-year warranty. Rental is possible for one-off projects.
Yellow and glow in the dark are stock items. From 500 pieces per type the hooks are produced in white, black, blue, green, red or orange at the same price per piece, and your company name can be engraved in them; production time is three to four weeks. Safety hooks are sold in batches of 25 pieces.
Specified in the contractor safety procedures of, among others:
One opening. Pick the size by the heaviest single load it carries: 6 in for air lines and control cables, 15 in for bundled cables and heavy hydraulic hose.
A second, lower hook separates power from data and air. That keeps heat from building up between conductors, limits electromagnetic interference between power and signal lines, and lets a crew identify and pull one line without disturbing the rest.
The standard 15 in top hook with a lower opening of 16.8 cm (6.6 in), engineered for shipyards and heavy industry where cable bundles and hoses are too thick for a standard hook. Maximum static load 275 kg (606 lb).
Charges in daylight and stays visible during a blackout or an emergency evacuation, so a cable run remains traceable when the lights go out. Black is available for entertainment and stage work.
Size calculator
Fill in the weight per metre from the cable or hose datasheet, the spacing between hooks and how many lines share one hook. The calculator picks the smallest size whose static load covers it, with a safety margin of 25%.
