HAZARD ZONE - CLASSIFIED / HAZARDOUS AREAS

HAZARDOUS AREA SAFETY

Classified or hazardous areas – zones where flammable gases, vapours or combustible dust may be present – demand extra discipline around cables, hoses and portable equipment on the floor. A loose cable or an unsecured tool is a bigger risk here than almost anywhere else on site.

THE SITUATION ON SITE

Classified or hazardous areas – around process units, tank farms, well pads and other zones where flammable atmospheres may occur – carry every ordinary housekeeping risk plus a much higher consequence if that risk turns into an ignition source or an emergency-response obstruction.

Temporary cables, hoses and portable equipment brought in for maintenance or turnaround work still have to cross these zones. Left loose on the ground, they become trip hazards in an area where a fall or a dropped tool carries added risk, and where emergency egress routes must stay completely clear.

CableSafe supplies cable management and dropped-objects equipment built for these conditions – keeping temporary cable runs and portable gear organized and off the floor without adding a fixed installation to a zone that is inspected and controlled.

COMMON HAZARDS

Trip hazards from loose cable and hose runs

Temporary power, air and communication lines crossing a hazardous area walkway are a trip hazard that also risks damaging the cable itself if left underfoot.

Blocked emergency egress routes

Cables, hoses and portable gear left across a designated escape route can slow or block evacuation in an emergency, when every second matters.

Dropped tools and equipment

Portable tools and equipment used during maintenance in a hazardous area need to be secured – a dropped tool is a hazard on its own and can also damage nearby equipment.

CABLESAFE SOLUTIONS

Cable ramps, guards and stands lift temporary cables and hoses off walkways and out of emergency egress routes, keeping the zone clear without a permanent installation.

KEEPING EGRESS ROUTES CLEAR

In a classified area, a clear emergency egress route is not just good housekeeping – it is often a specific, auditable requirement. Temporary cable and hose runs that cross a designated route need to be raised, guarded or routed around it, not just left flat on the ground.

CableSafe cable ramps and guards are designed for quick installation and removal by the maintenance crew itself, so egress routes stay clear throughout a turnaround or outage, not just at the start and end.

WHY TURNAROUND TEAMS SPECIFY CABLESAFE
